Shannon Dawson is a football coach who currently serves as the offensive coordinator at the University of Houston. He was born on June 21, 1979, in Clinton, North Carolina, USA. He graduated from Wingate University with a Bachelor's degree in Sport Management.
Dawson has been coaching for over 15 years, both at the college and professional levels. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at West Virginia University under former coach Rich Rodriguez. Throughout his coaching career, he has been an offensive coordinator or quarterbacks coach at various universities such as Stephen F. Austin, Kentucky, Southern Miss, and West Virginia.
Dawson is known for his offensive-minded approach and his ability to develop quarterbacks. Several players coached by Dawson have gone on to play in the NFL, including Geno Smith, Will Grier, and Brandon Doughty. In 2012, Dawson was a finalist for the Broyles Award, which is given to the top assistant coach in college football.
Dawson joined the Houston Cougars coaching staff in 2020 as the offensive coordinator under head coach Dana Holgorsen. Together, they aim to bring a high-powered, spread offense to the team and elevate the program to a higher level of success.
